Nezhmetdinov-Chernikov, 1962

Nezhmetdinov-Chernikov, Rostov on Don 1962

Position after 11...Bg7-f6

The game in this chapter stands out from others in our selection due to the fact that it was not played by top players or even by Grandmasters. However, in terms of creativity, the Soviet Master Rashid Nezhmetdinov could compete with any world class player. He was also a strong player, defeating more than once such opponents as Tal, Polugaevsky and Spassky.

Nezhmetdinov was a tactical player and often showed fantastic ideas, producing several remarkable games. The astonishing queen sacrifice in the wonderfully beautiful Nezhmetdinov-Chernikov, 1962 justifies, in my opinion, its selection in a row with the other classic games presented in this course. Enjoy it!
