In the first part of his King’s Indian repertoire for Black, Grandmaster Felix Blohberger guides viewers step by step into the world of flexible King’s Indian systems. The Austrian national player and experienced second learned the King’s Indian as a child, and this blend of passion and practical experience deeply shapes his approach in this course.
Volume 1 focuses on white's sidelines within 1.d4, 1.c4, and 1.Nf3 - systems in which White avoids the early classical moves d4, c4, Nc3 and e4 and therefore stays out of the main lines. These include several highly popular setups such as:
• The London System
• Trompowsky and related bishop systems
• g3 setups after 1.Nf3, 1.c4, or 1.d4
• The queenside fianchetto with b3, Bb2 and other flexible sidelines
All these systems appear constantly in modern practical play, and this course demonstrates how Black can confidently meet them using the proven King’s Indian setup. One of the great strengths of the King’s Indian is that Black can reach familiar structures with …g6, …Bg7, and a coherent kingside development plan regardless of White’s move order.
A special emphasis in this volume is placed on the g3 systems, which are popular at every level and rich in strategic ideas. Volume 1 provides full coverage of these structures, while Volume 2 will take on the classical main lines, where White combines d4, c4 and Nc3 early.
This course offers a clear, practical guide to achieving dynamic play as Black in all major sidelines fully in the spirit of the King’s Indian Defence.
